A skit is an integral part of a child's education, but at Darla MSS, it is offered only in small measure. Skits and dramas help build children's self-esteem, confidence, and communication skills.
The English Literary Committee conducted an inter-house skit competition on 28th May 2016. Skits are such a new activity in the school that we only held one this year—after seven or more years without. The main objectives of the skit competition were for students to:
· Demonstrate knowledge of story elements by constructing an outline of a skit
· Develop a story plot with sequential events
· Develop listening, speaking, and performing skills by working cooperatively to create and perform a group skit
· Recognize conflict and resolution by analyzing each other's skits
· Work cooperatively in groups to create a good skit
Our students chose compelling and touching stories about parent-child relationships and the value of friendship. The performances were especially interesting because the students used an LCD projector to display scenes and pictures. They also incorporated background music and a sound system. Admittedly, the sound system wasn't great—but then again, this is a school, not a movie theater or drama hall. You can't expect too much! Still, they made the best use of whatever they had.
The stage decoration was creative and appealing. Personally, I hadn't expected our students to perform so well—but they did. The skits included "The Last Leaf," "A Mother's Love," "The One-eyed Mother," and others. Here are some stills from the event.
