Senseless to Be in Senses

You see around many things, you concurred and fabricated and take part, you hurt, making you both helpless and sad. And happy and hopeful. You have the sense to feel all these. But when you are separated from your senses you feel nothing, it’s ecstasy and just a fantasy of illusionist life.

  

The senselessness of being

Fills heaven with rainbows.

Everything is you; a life and the universe.

You will shout, sing and dance,

In the space, you occupy.

Now, be in sense, eyes wide open;

Feels the darkness and light,

Sunshine and harsh wind.

Trails of soft, iron trails,

Each denuding life.

These are invisible threads en route to

the common destination: the grave.

Books are bound, framed and forced,

Weeping, smiling they are taught naught.

Perfection and decency are treasures,

Things forgotten and unlearned.

Aging, we grow experienced, then what?

We’re pulled down to the grave.

Reading Week 2015

Reading Week is organized in our school every year with an intent of helping our students understand the importance of reading and the infinite benefits it facilitates in their growth in academics as a student. Moreover, it betters human in their individual and social life spheres.  In accordance with the plan set at the preset of the academic year, it was organized from 7 to 12 of September 2015.  This year’s theme was “Read, Lead and Succeed.”  During the week, some special reading activities were initiated so as to facilitate an opportunity for more students to take part in the reading activities and thereby develop and inculcate an the interest of reading within them. 

Readers’ Theatre

Readers’ theatre was conducted as a competition item between the sections of grade PP-III.  It was interesting to see the tiny tots of our school presenting themselves as little narrators and various fanciful characters in their creative costumes and attire as kings, queens, butterflies, birds, etc. Their babbling speeches and sing-song narrations did create an effective ambiance and were appreciated by everyone.  The presentations were evaluated based on creativity and coordination and prizes were awarded accordingly.

Random Reading

This reading activity was conducted for students classes VII – X to check their ability to read Dzongkha and English fluently and their preparedness and confidence to speak before an audience.  They were instructed beforehand to ready with two passages, in English and Dzongkha, and read it out as the coordinator of the day randomly called out their roll numbers in the assembly.  The activity went well as we planned and had the desired result.

Selected Reading

This activity was for the students from classes IV-VI.  Some of the students who were identified by the teachers were concerned readout either pieces of news or interesting information they wanted to share with their fellow students in the assembly. This activity was also successful though many of the students who came forward couldn’t be permitted to present their reading due to time constraints in the assembly. 

Quiz

A mini-quiz of two questions related to books and reading was also initiated to evaluate the students’ awareness of popular books, writers and some common literary terms.  And prizes were awarded instantly to the winners.

Book Talk

As on every Friday, two students presented reviews of an English and a Dzongkha book.  The reviews are helping the students to get acquainted with the interesting books in the library and rouse their curiosity to read them.

Mass Reading

To facilitate more time for general reading, an hour was created, on Thursday, by deducting five minutes from each period.  So, after the instructional hours, all students and teachers came out to the open, settled in conducive places and read books of their choice for an hour.

We are very happy to note here that all the activities we had envisaged went well, leading this year’s Reading Week into a grand success.  It is hoped that our plans for such activities in the future will also meet with the same grandeur and success.

This year too reading week started from 7^th Sep. There are many reading activities like reading theater, random reading, selected reading, quiz, book talk, mass reading to name a few. A Business is to be Noted

One of the most significant need in life is money. Companies and individuals business make profit. The celebration and festivities woo the mind of people to buy and try; to ask them to keep the things of the event. The World Olympic event in China or Independence Day celebration or National Day is only money. Like anywhere, the 60^th anniversary has become a profit making anniversary in Bhutan. Like reading year for book keepers, the celebrations are lucrative business for many money minded people. Many groups of people came to our school bringing wall clock bearing the HM’s portrait, lotteries based on the celebration, badges, and other.

Suppose in our school, every student has to buy a badge; and everyone has to pay nu. 50/- each for the badge. And today our students got the new badge with the 4^th king portrait on it. They were happy to be with the king, but not with the quality of the badge as it would worth not more than nu.20/- The pins from the badge comes out without any reasons. And the HM photo isnt clear.

A Golden Handshake-a solution to Unemployment

The government has failed to frame a long-term employment policy, without which there is a danger of our youth going astray, thereby disrupting and pressurising the path of development strategies. It is also noted that an employment otherwise would be for a few well-connected individuals.

According to a recent report prepared by the Ministry Labour and Human Resources, the unemployment rate is 2.9 percent and the country’s youth unemployment stands at 9.6 percent.

This year too, almost half of the 3,322 university graduates appeared the preliminary examination for 434 vacancies in the civil service. This means at least three graduates will be vying for a slot in the civil service this year. The unemployment figure is rising. According to the labour ministry’s press release, the national unemployment rate has decreased by 0.3 percent in 2014 from 2013, which is not actually true.

The government must now think of absorbing graduates. One of the best ways of giving jobs is to replace old servants with new, skilled seekers. The labour force participation rate is estimated at 62.6 percent in 2014, (those between 16-45) and they are considered economically active group than those who are economically inactive due to old age. One of the schemes of making the workforce is Voluntary Retirement Scheme. This is generous, can be tax-free severance payment to persuade the employees to voluntarily retire from the company, which is called a ‘Golden hand Shake’ as it is the golden route to retrenchment. It can be a better way of creating jobs for an active group of people.

A golden handshake is essentially a severance or kind of compensation made to employees through several ways, such as cash, or stock options, or other incentive packages. It’s an agreement between an employee and employer when they leave jobs or retire voluntary-credit as a retirement incentive. The golden parachute agreement customarily is used as a lure to create jobs and give opportunities to jobs to young people in the country. As young people enter jobs, they tend to perform better than old oldies.

Some benefits under this scheme are better emoluments; the employee will get the provident fund and gratuity dues at the earlier year so that he/she can use for house construction, and for family subsistence. It is a lucrative settlement that prevents resentment at old age. It also offers the best and human route to retrenching excess employees. Sometimes, voluntary nature precludes the need for enforcement.

The people most likely to take advantage of the Golden Handshake(GH) are people who would retire anyway. For example, employees who are more than 50 years old and have more than 25 years of service should be eligible for GH. If this tenure has to be taken in, 1000 or more jobs could be created in a year than mare 434. Offering the GH might encourage a few additional employees to retire sooner. And those bogus employees opt for retirement and for the benefit anyway, and then the new experiencers would result in a higher quality job.

As an alternative to the Golden Handshake, there could be a Lump Sum Incentive program in which retirement-eligible employees were offered a lump sum incentive. These can include cash, a house, or stocks options, or other packages for life-long for a personal sacrifice of early retirement. For example, an employee at least 50 years old who retires by the close of the fiscal year is offered the opportunity to receive lump sum incentives.

Darla School Annual Concert

Darla school is gearing up for an upcoming Annual Concert show which will take place for two days on 28-29^th of August 2015.The school has been preparing almost for a month for the final show. Different in- charges and coordinators are given different items to be practiced. Students, teachers, and school have been busy after school. Everyone couldn’t think about hanging around and losing time like that. When days crawl near, students and teachers bump here and there looking for participants, but to see only their own participants in other programs. It is good that each student is allowed to take part in only three items for maximum participation, and it’s also not taken seriously by our students. During rehearsal, there were some students taking part in four or more items. So be it, I say. Good dancers should. Even monkeys can dance when the music is on.

Our teachers, students and councilors are busy selling tickets for the show. The cost of the ticket is nu. 80. And the last year it was nu.70. This is the much mauled and ranted in the school when it comes to any collection. Where does the money go? It is too much? Are some of our not- a –sweet- talk among our students. And this is something to be criticized that is sometimes true. Last year, the show made a huge money and now there was no talk about it. There was a presentation in one of the various meetings that were used for buying stage decoration clothes and related things like that. But the stage remained the same or it had become poorer than before. The back wall of the stage is scratched, smeared, and blotted with so many tints of colors. The floor planks have become shaking pendulums and risky for our participants. And there was no musical instrument, no lighting amenities, no good sound boxes, and NO. But YES when it comes to working??

Anyways, we hope everything will be better this year. And HOPE we must. And like last year, our Darla community will come and watch the show. The show is all about showing the talents and abilities of our and your students. This show is dedicated and honored to our fourth Druk Gyalpo and Je khenpo on their 60^th birth anniversary. The school is also building a Jangchub chorten for the well-being of all. Come, watch the differences!

Human Values Workshop

Darla school staff attended Human Values Workshop in Gedu for three days beginning from 13-15^th of August. I am reproducing some important topics that the workshop covered during these three days. When there was a feedback session, everyone said how changed everyone was at the end of the workshop. In the beginning, the content was similar to our eight-fold paths, and it actually was derived from there.

The session starts with this proposal, an ambiguous one:

“Whatever is said is a Proposal (Do not assume it to be true/false)

Verify it on Your Own Right – on the basis of your Natural Acceptance “

It also defines the role of education.

“The role of education is to facilitate the development of the competence to live with Definite Human Conduct.”

And transformation is equal to development as far as the workshop. This is the diagrammatic summary of human values.

The self and body...i like this part the most. Everything submerges in the space. Where does the self go from the space?
